Decomposition mechanisms are described which are based on stable isotope labelling, low and high resolution field desorption, and the application of field desorption kinetics. The combined use of these techniques for the study of some fundamental fragmentations in field desorption is demonstrated successfully. Further, a comparison with the fragmentation pattern of methionine under electron impact, chemical ionization and Curie point pyrolysis is given.

Analysis of the Photo Conversion of Asphaltenes Using Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry: Fragmentation, Ring Fusion, and Fullerene Formation

The conversion or photo conversion of asphaltenes to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH’s) promoted by a laser source is analyzed using both experimental and theoretical methods. We propose that during measurements performed at an intermediate laser power, fragmentation to afford PAH’s and ring fusion to yield fused PAH’s (FPAH’s) may occur either within molecular clusters (resin case) or wi...

Preliminary Report of NAD+-Dependent Amino Acid Dehydrogenase Producing Bacteria Isolated from Soil

Amino acid dehydrogenases (L-amino acid: oxidoreductase deaminating EC 1.4.1.X) are members of the wider superfamily of oxidoreductases that catalyze the reversible oxidative deamination of an amino acid to its keto acid and ammonia with the concomitant reduction of either NAD+, NADP+ or FAD. These enzymes have been received much attention as biocatalysts for use in biosensors or diagnostic kit...

Fragmentation pathway for glutamine identification: loss of 73 Da from dimethylformamidine glutamine isobutyl ester.

A fragmentation mechanism for the neutral loss of 73 Da from dimethylformamidine glutamine isobutyl ester is investigated. Understanding this mechanism will allow to improve the identification and quantification of 15N-labeled and unlabeled glutamine and the distinguishing of glutamine and glutamic acid by electrospray ionization (ESI)-tandem mass spectrometry. Before mass spectrometry analysis...

The primary structure of a 4.0-kDa photosystem I polypeptide encoded by the chloroplast psaI gene.

Partial amino acid sequences have been determined for a 4.0-kDa photosystem I polypeptide from barley. A comparison with the sequence of the chloroplast genome of Nicotiana tabacum and Marchantia polymorpha identified the polypeptide as chloroplast-encoded. We designate the corresponding gene psaI and the polypeptide PSI-I. The barley chloroplast psaI gene was sequenced. The gene encodes a poly...

Linear Graphene Nanocomposite Synthesis and an Analytical Application for the Amino Acid Detection of Camellia nitidissima Chi Seeds

Husk derived amino modified linear graphene nanocomposites (aLGN) with a diameter range of 80-300 nm and a length range of 100-300 μm were prepared by a modified Hummers method, ammonia treatment, NaBH₄ reduction and phenylalanine induced assembly processes, etc. The resulting composites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electr...
